U.S. map of job loss in February 2009

The economy is worsening and the unemployment rate is increasing to the point where it is shocking. This special map displays the jobs lost during 2009 in the United States of America in red circles, with bigger red circles indicating higher number of jobs lost. It is amazing to see how many jobs were lost in California. It is obvious that there were more than 50,000 jobs lost, predominately in the Los Angeles County. In total there were more than 4 million jobs lost nationwide. I would assume that the darker red spots in states such as Florida and New York is due to the mass number of cities that suffered job loss in smaller numbers. It is clear that California was biggest hit by job loss. Blue spots indicate jobs gained. If blue spots and red spots are compared, it is clear that red spots are dominant, except in Alaska. Even Hawaii had a high percentage of job loss, considering the size of their state. Blue spots are hidden in some spots because of the red spots overpowering their space.
